In a recent blog post, the Microsoft Flight Simulator confirmed an upcoming update that’s expected to release August 27.

The team didn’t provide details on what this update will contain outside of “issues that have been recently reported” which we imagine include things like getting stuck on the loading screen.

Once patch notes for the update are released on August 27, we’ll be sure to share them with you. The blog post contained a few other goodies outside of the release date for the next Microsoft Flight Simulator update.

First, a video confirming a partnership with Bing Maps was shared. The comments on the video make a number of valid points from joking that Microsoft has partnered with themselves to suggesting the team make Microsoft Flight Simulator partially open source.

We have to agree with that latter suggestion, especially after seeing community add-ons like the one from Drzewiecki Design that improves the quality of Moscow’s famous buildings, airports, and scenery.

A joke could be made here about someone improving Buckingham Palace, but we’ll set that off to the side for now.

The team provided SDK Update info as well, noting the following:

“With the official release of Microsoft Flight Simulator also comes the first public Microsoft Flight Simulator SDK release. We have reached a good starting point for scenery and simple airplanes, but there is still a lot to come in the future.

Since the last release in the Closed Beta, we have improved the documentation on several fronts; most notably aprons, taxiway signs, painted lines and lights. We added samples for the lights and for navigation data.

The developer mode has seen many issues and crashes fixed, and now has the option to build an entire project at once, rather than requiring the developer to build package by package. For complex aircraft, WebAssembly is still undergoing active development.

We are working on some much-needed features and providing code to help port existing C++ aircraft. In addition to this, we are also actively working on mapping out the functionality of the SimConnect API. We look forward to your continued feedback, which has proven to be invaluable so far!”

The blog post recaps the previous Around the World tour series video for Oceania before sharing a few lovely screenshots from the Microsoft Flight Simulator community. Overall, we’re excited to hear that an update is coming on August 27 that’ll hopefully address things like the loading screen bug.

The partnership with Bing is cool and opens the door to interesting, engaging conversation, and it’s awesome to see community screenshots recognized and acknowledged by the Microsoft Flight Simulator team.

Be sure to check back as we’ll be sharing the patch notes for the August 27 update once they’re made available.
