Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers will be a PlayStation exclusive

Your friendly neighborhood PlayStation exclusive.

If you’ve been looking forward to Marvel’s Avengers, you may be excited to hear that Spider-Man is going to be added to the game in 2021. However, if you’re playing Marvel’s Avengers anywhere outside of PlayStation, you sadly won’t have access to this web-slinger.

According to Sony and developer Crystal Dynamics, Spider-Man is going to be a PlayStation exclusive.

Exclusives aren’t uncommon when it comes to games themselves. For example, you can only play Horizon Forbidden West on PS5, and that’s great when it comes to encouraging gamers to buy one console over another.

Hearing that a game that’s available on multiple platforms will have a character that’s exclusive to one console is a tad disconcerting. It’s even more disconcerting when it’s a popular superhero like Spider-Man.

In a post on the PlayStation blog, it was confirmed that Spider-Man will be added to Marvel’s Avengers in 2021 as an add-on.

While Marvel’s Avengers will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Microsoft Windows, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Spider-Man will only be available to PlayStation owners.

Spider-Man won’t be in Marvel’s Avengers on Xbox, PC, or Stadia. Naturally, the decision to make Spider-Man a PlayStation exclusive has been met with some backlash from gamers who disagree with making characters and content console-exclusive.

An entire game being on one console is one thing, but only giving a specific set of console owners an entire character (and one as pivotal as Spider-Man in a game like Marvel’s Avengers) has left a sour taste in the mouths of many.

For others, the response has been along the lines of “it is what it is” as they still plan to buy and play Marvel’s Avengers.

For PlayStation owners, they can look forward to the introduction of Spider-Man in early 2021 along with an in-game event coinciding with his launch.

Spider-Man isn’t the only character announced for Marvel’s Avengers as Hawkeye will also be added in the form of post-launch content. Additional post-launch characters may be announced in the future.

Stay tuned, as we’ll be updating you as soon as Crystal Dynamics announces new post-launch characters. Until then, keep an eye out for the release of Marvel’s Avengers on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Google Stadia.

In the future, Marvel’s Avengers will also be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

While we wait for the game’s release, we’re curious to hear your thoughts on the decision to make Spider-Man exclusive to Marvel’s Avengers on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Do you think it makes sense in relation to Sony having Marvel’s Spider-Man as an exclusive? Do you think it would’ve been more fair to make Spider-Man available across the board? Comment below!
