Animal Crossing's second summer update brings fireworks and dream journeys

Animal Crossing firework displays arrive every Sunday during August thanks to the Summer Update Wave 2.

The second summer update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrives July 30 and will bring weekly firework shows and the ability to visit our friends’ islands while dreaming.

In Wave 2 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ summer content deluge, shady fox Redd will be showing up more regularly on our islands, but this time he’s not here for art. Every sunday during August, the island will play host to new firework shows. During the event you can take part in Redd’s raffle, winning prizes such as a bubble blower or sparklers

In exciting news, it looks like even Isabelle will leave her post to step outside and admire the fireworks. Sparklers and custom fireworks are included, so you can design your own art to explode in vibrant color when you invite friends over for an evening visit. We get to see Tom Nook, K.K. Slider and Isabelle designs in the short trailer.

In addition to impressive shows, you can finally use your beds for their real-life purpose: going on spiritual journeys. By lying down and choosing to sleep, you can meet with Luna, a special Tapir who lets you dreamwalk on any island you’ve visited before. In previous games this allowed you to interact and change the island however you like, though the modifications obviously wouldn’t apply to the actual owners – that’d be a quite literal nightmare! Choose an island to visit and you’ll appear in their plaza, able to explore at will and even say hi to a dream version of your friend.

Finally, and perhaps most crucially of all, the July 30 update will also introduce the Island Restoration Service. This allows any subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online to back their islands up via the cloud, able to be restored should they damage their console, reset it, or swap to a new device.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Wave 2 summer update arrives July 30, and it’s far from the end of new content. A further free update is on the way this fall, and looks to be Halloween themed. Excited by the second wave of summer content? Let us know in the comments below!
