As you dig deeper into the world and story of Ghost of Tsushima, you’ll have the ability to collect a variety of crafting ingredients including Wax Wood. Unlike Bamboo or Yew Wood, Wax Wood can be a little harder to find and collect. Especially early on when you’ve yet to interact with locations like Shinto Shrines. In Ghost of Tsushima, Wax Wood is primarily collected at Shinto Shrine locations. It’s not an item you can readily scoop up as you wander through the map like Bamboo. To get Wax Wood, you’ll need to visit the Shinto Shrines scattered throughout Ghost of Tsushima.

When you complete a Shinto Shrine, you’ll be rewarded with one Wax Wood.

Near each of these Shinto Shrine locations, you’ll also spot a small, suspicious looking tree. We say “suspicious” in that it looks like something you can and should interact with, and it is. By interacting with this tree, you can get one more Wax Wood for a total of two Wax Wood per Shinto Shrine.

Given its rarity, you won’t need as many Wax Wood to upgrade your weapons as you do other crafting materials like Bamboo and Yew Wood. That said, it’s worth taking the time to visit all of these Shinto Shrines as they’re one of the fast travel points you can unlock in Ghost of Tsushima.

Other fast travel points include towns and Fox Dens, but the Shinto Shrines are often in convenient locations. At least they were for us. You can also get other goodies by exploring Shinto Shrines, it’s not just Wax Wood, though that crafting material in and of itself is a fantastic reward.

Again, if you need Wax Wood, you should head out and search for Shinto Shrines. Complete these Shinto Shrines for one Wax Wood, and inspect the small tree nearby for another piece of Wax Wood. Using Wax Wood, you’ll be able to do things like upgrade your weapon which can be extremely useful, especially later on in the game.
