Superhot: Mind Control Delete out July 16, free to most Superhot owners

Grab a copy of Superhot before July 16 and you can get Mind Control Delete for free.

Superhot: Mind Control Delete is a standalone followup to 2016’s time-moves-as-you-do (yes, that’s a genre now) puzzle-shooter. It’s getting a surprise launch next week, and you might be able to grab it for free.

To celebrate the official launch of the new title, anyone who has purchased a copy of the original Superhot game before the 16th will get a free download of Superhot: Mind Control Delete. That applies on the following platforms: Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store, Origin, or GOG. Unfortunately, that means Switch owners can’t get a free copy on their console of choice, but the Superhot devs have said that if you send an e-shop receipt to freemcdforswitch@superhotgame.com then they’ll sort you out with a code for the PC version.

It’s worth noting that the offer doesn’t extend to the various free versions of Superhot which have been given away on services like Twitch Prime, PS Plus or Xbox Games With Gold over the years since release. You need to have purchased the game for yourself. Nor does it apply to the VR version of the game, which is a standalone release.

If you haven’t tried Superhot, then A, it’s really good and you absolutely should have by now, and B, the game is currently on offer on the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox. Act fast and you can grab it for 60% off. If you want to double check that you’ll get access to the new game, and how to unlock it, then you can click here to head to the Superhot: Mind Control Delete FAQ page. For most services like Steam, the Epic Games Store and PS4, a free copy will be added automatically. Xbox players have a little more work to do to register their copy.

In the FAQ post, the Superhot development team explained why they decided to give away so many copies of their new game.

“We’re incredibly lucky and privileged thanks to you,” the dev team writes. “The support of you and all of those customers like you allows us to keep the studio independent. You let us run it however we please, without care about bottom lines and profit margins. You let us do weird things – invest in crazy experiments that will never see the light of day, build things that are trying to help other video game studios, even directly fund and support beautiful tiny indie devs in Superhot Presents.

“You’re allowing us to continue to do weird and wonderful things with our lives. It only seems fair that we try to return the favor. As a tiny token of our gratitude, we hope that coordinating this massive, complicated giveaway scheme helps bring a bit more joy into your life.”

Superhot: Mind Control Delete releases July 16, and you have until 6pm CEST on the day to purchase an original Superhot copy if you want to get it for free.
