So you’re a Dark Souls lover keen to try your hand at a new realm of darkness and despair? Well in that case you’ll definitely want to learn how to play the Mortal Shell beta. Thankfully, downloading this free demo is extremely easy, you just need the right launcher. Here’s what you need to know:
How to play the Mortal Shell beta
To play the Mortal Shell beta you need to have the Epic Games Launcher installed on your PC. Once that’s ready, you can either head directly to the Mortal Shell beta store page by clicking here or find the game using the search bar in the top right. If you do the latter option, you’ll then need to click the Beta button at the top of the screen, as highlighted in the image above. This will swap you from the core game’s store page to that of the free-to-play beta.
Once you’re on the right page, you next want to click the large Get button on the lower right side of the screen, as highlighted above. Finally, accept the purchase order (it should say that the price is $0). This will add the Mortal Shell beta to your account and start the download. All that’s left to do is head to your library page, start the download and wait for the beta to download so that you can dive right in! Just be prepared to die, a lot.
For those out of the loop, Mortal Shell is a new soulslike game created by a small indie studio hoping to share their passion for the genre. The game isn’t finished yet and the beta only grants access to a small area of the game, but it’s enough of a chunk to last a few hours for more players. You’ll get two Shells (classes) to play with: The hefty Harros and the nimble Tiel. There’s plenty to experiment with in the beta, and the developers seem eager to receive any feedback players have from their time with the game.
