Like the forest-floor equivalent of the Hermit Crab, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Walking Leaf is a new bug that camouflages itself in an attempt to stay hidden. If you’re hoping to catch one then you’ll need to grab a net and head out during the months of July - September in the northern hemisphere, or January - March in the southern hemisphere. Here are the key details about the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Walking Leaf:

  • When: All Day, July - September
  • Where: Ground, near trees, disguised as a leaf
  • Value: 600 Bells

Much like the Hermit Crab which disguises itself as a shell, the Walking Leaf will disguise itself as a leaf, appearing as the same shape as a piece of furniture when dropped from your inventory or shaken out of a tree. Naturally if you see one of these on the ground you’ll rush over to grab it, but instead of a new table or fridge, you’ll find the Walking Leaf pop out from its disguise and start waddling away. Don’t let it get too far though! Whip that net out and take a swing.

Because it doesn’t travel very fast, it should be pretty easy to catch a Walking Leaf once you know what you’re looking for. Wander around your island and keep an eye out for anything that looks like a piece of furniture on the ground (a leaf with a chunk missing). If you see one, get your net out then approach and swing!
