To catch a Giant Cicada in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need to be out and about during the months of July and August. The Giant Cicada – much like the rest of its churring brethren – can be found on trees, making a ruckus. Here are the key details you should know about the bug:
- When: 8am - 5pm, July - August
- Where: On Trees
- Value: 500 Bells
The Giant Cicada is quite easily spottable as it’s roughly twice the size of the other bugs you’ll see on trees, and as a black bug, it stands out quite clearly from the trees it rests on. It also makes a much deeper churring noise than most other cicadas, so should be quite recognizable. Run around the tree-filled areas of your island and you’ll be bound to find one before long.

To catch it, you need to get your net out and hold the A button to approach slowly, net raised. If you sprint or run too close to the cicada it will fly off. Approach slowly and swing from in front of the tree to catch a Giant Cicada in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
