Resident Evil 8: Village sees the return of Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield

Werewolves? In my village? It's more likely than you think.

Resident Evil 8: Village, or Resident Evil VIIIage if Capcom has their way, has been unveiled during the PS5 Future of Gaming showcase. Resident Evil: Village will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The game will see the return of Resident Evil 7 protagonist Ethan Winters, who appears to have kept up his day job of bumbling into unpleasant environments and getting into danger. This time he's taken a trip to a snowy, mountaintop village, and is about to discover it was a very poor choice of holiday destination indeed thanks to a certain monster-wolf menace. While his girlfriend Mia is no longer around to harass/help him, Ethan can expect to see more of Chris Redflied, who made a brief appearance at the end of Resi 7. However, the boulder-punching Resi series star is looking a little more menacing than usual.

Dressed in a shady black coat, we see him briefly apologize to Ethan before unloading five shots into the face of a lady lying on the ground. Could Chris really be a villain? It’s unlikely, but who knows, maybe he’s finally realized that a world without a Wesker-style villain just isn’t worth living in and decided to take up the mantle of his old rival/love. More likely than our fan fictions is that Resident Evil 8 will feature some kind of transforming monster which hides itself as people, be it werewolves or vampires. Here's the trailer:

Perhaps the most interesting thing shown in the Resident Evil 8 footage was the sheer number of characters. Resident Evil 7 kept its cast limited to the unpleasant (or unfortunate, depending on your viewpoint) Baker family and their home, but it looks like 8 will be playing host to a far wider cast of unsettling folks, some of whom may even be friendly! The rumored inclusion of Werewolves also checks out, though from the looks of things, hairy beasts will be the least of our troubles. Either way, we're definitely excited to see more of Resident Evil 8: Village, and will update you as soon as we know more.
