How to catch a Ribbon Eel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Where to find the squiggly little Ribbon Eel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have been asking how to catch newly added fish like the Ribbon Eel. Unlike your average fish, the Ribbon Eel has a distinct appearance. You won’t have to worry about catching a Sea Bass. To explain further, we’ve put together a guide explaining how to catch a Ribbon Eel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

  • The Ribbon Eel is available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as of June 1 in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • You can catch a Ribbon Eel all day in the sea.
  • To catch a Ribbon Eel, look for a thin, slender fish shadow.
  • The Ribbon Eel sells for 600 Bells.

While the Ribbon Eel isn’t valuable, it looks really cool and is much more distinct than other fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Because of this, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have been asking how to catch the Ribbon Eel. As of June 1, the Ribbon Eel is available in the Northern Hemisphere.

You can catch a Ribbon Eel all day, there are no special time requirements to catch one. Unlike regular fish shadows, the Ribbon Eel boasts its own unique shadow that’s long and slender. When you see it, there’s no doubt that it’s a Ribbon Eel. The Ribbon Eel spawns in the sea, but doesn’t appear to be particular when it comes to where.

For example, we’ve seen the Ribbon Eel spawn on all sides of our island, whereas sharks tend to stick to the upper right coastline. If you’re having a hard time getting fish to spawn, you can try and use Fish Bait to lure them out. You can also go on a Mystery Island Tour where you could potentially land on a fish island.

We caught several new fish on a fish island last night including the Great White Shark and the Ribbon Eel. Unfortunately, while the Ribbon Eel looks cool and has the feel of a rare fish, it’s not rare. It’s a common fish spawn and as such, only sells for 600 Bells each. Despite this, it’s worth catching at least one Ribbon Eel to give to Blathers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

The Ribbon Eel may not be valuable, but it's still a really cool fish to catch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
