To catch a Whale Shark in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need to be fishing in the sea from the months of June to September in the northern hemisphere (that’s December to March in the southern hemisphere). Whale Sharks appear as massive shadows that are easily separated from regular fish thanks to the dorsal fins that protrude from their backs. You can see what a fin looks like in the image below.

If you only catch fish with fins, you’ll likely pick up a range of different (and valuable) sharks and even a few suckerfish too. We recommend crafting a large amount of fish bait or waiting for a rainy day before trying to catch a big haul of sharks. You can also try to head out on Nook Miles trips to reach a shark-filled island.
