To celebrate its launch on June 2, Valorant is getting a global tournament with a prize pool of $200,000.
Valorant’s closed beta comes to an end today, but the competitive shooter’s journey is only just beginning. As part of its opening weekend, a special tournament will take place to crown the first Valorant champions.
Announced on the official Valorant Twitter account, the launch celebration tournament is being hosted in partnership with Twitch Rivals and Summer Game Fest, and will include First Person Shooter content creators from across the globe.

“To celebrate launch, we’re teaming with competitive FPS creators to hold a global tournament and crown 1 winning team from each region,” the tweet reads. “Up for grabs is a $200,000 prize pool and the right to count themselves among the first global VALORANT champs.”
The post also links to the Twitch Gaming post covering Summer Games Fest, which includes further details about the Twitch Rivals event, including the regions from which we can expect contestants to arrive from.
“After a record breaking closed beta, Riot Game’s 5v5 character-based tactical shooter VALORANT is launching on June 2,” the post reads. “To celebrate, Twitch Rivals is collaborating with Riot to execute the first set of competitive events for VALORANT on its grand opening weekend. These events will span the globe, with participation from some of your favorite creators in North America, Brazil, LATAM, Europe, Korea, and Japan.”
We’re waiting to here more about what form the first official Valorant tournament will take, and we’ll update you as soon as we know more. For now, it’s clear that the event will take place vis Twitch Gaming, and it sounds like it’ll be an invitational event which brings in content creators for the regions detailed.
While this is the first launch tournament, Valorant's closed beta has already played host to several invitational tournaments, including matches between the devs and CS:GO pros, the T1 invitational, and the genre-mixing ESPN invitational.
