Serious Sam 4 coming this August

A release window for Serious Sam 4 was shared through a brand new trailer.

Serious Sam fans have been eagerly awaiting news regarding the next entry in the series, Serious Sam 4. Originally announced around E3 2018, two full years have passed without any additional updates on the game’s release.

Ending this silence, Devolver Digital and developer Croteam gave fans what they’ve been asking for today… a release date for Serious Sam 4!

In an exciting announcement today from Croteam and Devolver Digital, it was revealed that Serious Sam 4 is scheduled to release this August on PC (via Steam) and Google Stadia. An actual date has yet to be provided, but hearing the game is releasing in August is more than enough. As Serious Sam fans, we’ll absolutely take it.

Plus, August is only three months away, so we’ll undoubtedly hear what specific day the game will be available sometime soon. While we wait for that, we’ve been soaking in the brand new Serious Sam 4 trailer. No gameplay is shown, but we do get a hilarious scene of a soldier in a field getting swarmed by a horde of monstrous creatures who rush past him without hurting him.

Looking confused, he stares up at the top of the hill where Sam emerges, guns blazing. The trailer concludes with the August release date and a link to the game’s Steam page. On the Steam page, gamers unfamiliar with Serious Sam 4 (or the franchise in general) can get caught up by reading the following synopsis:

“Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam 'Serious' Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.

Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels. The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations.”

As teased in the description on Steam, Serious Sam 4 comes loaded with a new Legion System that was recently outlined in a new video on the Devolver Digital channel.

Other bits of info provided by the release date press release include confirmation of returning enemies from previous games in the series such as the Headless Kamikaze, Scrapjack, Werebull, and Beheaded Rocketeer to name just a few. Along with classic enemies, Serious Sam 4 will also feature new enemies including the Processed, Belcher, and Brute Zealot.

A new weapon, the auto shotgun, will also be available in Serious Sam 4. If you’re looking forward to Serious Sam 4, pre-orders are now available for the game. The base game is priced at $39.99 while the deluxe version is $10 at $49.99 and offers bonus goodies like the game’s epic soundtrack, a digital artbook, and the Classic Tommy Gun in-game weapon skin.

If you’re like us, you can also add Serious Sam 4 to your wishlist on Steam to keep track of the game and its exact release date once it’s unveiled.
