Electronic Arts joins a number of companies who’ve been adapting their summer gaming events to a purely digital format this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the EA Play event served as a way for gamers to demo the latest EA games in person. Now, it seems like EA is changing things around, though there’s still a lot we don’t know about this year’s EA Play event outside of its release date.

EA Play will take place digitally this year, airing on June 11 at 4 p.m. (PST) and 7 p.m. (EST). The announcement comes courtesy of the Electronic Arts account on Twitter. In the tweet, EA links to the EA Play page on their website, which has been updated to advertise ‘EA Play Live’ along with overviews of what past events consisted of.
Given the fact that this year’s EA Play will take place digitally, we’re wondering if EA plans to do something similar to the Steam Game Festival in offering free limited-time demos. We’re also curious whether everyone will be able to participate in the digital EA Play event this year, or if you’ll need to sign up for anything.

As of the time of this writing, nothing has been announced outside of when the event will take place this year, and the fact that it will be strictly digital in nature. Again, this makes sense as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced gaming companies to get creative with their events that are usually held in person.
