No. You cannot grow turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. We’re not exactly sure why the turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are sterile, but it must be that the big farming corporation of Daisy Mae and Joan has made it so that they can corner the market.

Whatever the reason, the key details is that you cannot plant or grow turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. At least, not right now. In previous entries in the series, Joan the turnip seller would also sell red turnip seeds. These could be planted to grow your own turnips for profit, but demanded you water them every single day. Miss a single day, and the turnips would wilt. We don’t know if red turnips will ever be added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but there’s a chance Nintendo will mix up the money-making system further down the line.
