Nintendo Switch sold 1.5m units in December

NPDs also confirm Call of Duty: WW2 was the best-selling game of 2017.

Nintendo has announced that the Switch sold 1.5m units in the US in December alone, as part of the 4.8m it shifted since launch to become the fastest-selling console in US history.

The news is confirmed by December and end-of-year sales stats from the NPD Group. NPD said PS4 still did better across the whole year, but added: "On a time-aligned basis through the first ten months on the market, Nintendo Switch has sold more consoles than any other platform in history."

In other hardware news, Nintendo 3DS had its best month of sales in December since 2014, shifting over 750,000 units across its various iterations.

On the software side, Call of Duty: WW2 was confirmed as the best-selling game of December and the year overall, marking the eighth consecutive December that a Call of Duty title has topped the charts.
